Welcome to Earth School

A Journey of Learning and Experience

The other day in my yoga class, my teacher said something about Earth School...as part of a message she was imparting while in savasana. It struck me...Earth School...what a great concept! I've been in Earth School for 65+ years and I'm wondering what I have learned and earned. I'm the type of person who wants to do well in school. I go for the A but will accept a B. I don't like C's. So what does that mean about my life so far and how I have succeeded in Earth School? I think it means I love learning, I have learned, and I have done pretty well. I'd give my life an A so far. If you think of it like school school, it's like some people love school and do well, and others aren't quite as successful in school. It has to do with so many things though...home environment, ability or inability to focus, your upbringing with regard to family values, your ability to speak the language...so many things. There is a lot of adapting going on - just as in nature.

I got to thinking...it would be fun to look at Earth School which is what prompted this blog post.

Imagine Earth as a vast classroom, and life as the ultimate curriculum. Welcome to Earth School – a place where souls come to learn, grow, and experience the full spectrum of human existence. From the moment we are born, we embark on a journey of discovery, facing challenges, embracing lessons, and evolving as individuals. So, what might Earth School look like, and what lessons are we here to learn? Let's explore!

Lesson 1: The School of Relationships
One of the primary lessons of Earth School is the art of relationships. From family dynamics to friendships, romantic partnerships to professional collaborations, our interactions with others serve as mirrors, reflecting back to us aspects of ourselves that we may not have seen otherwise. Through the highs and lows of relationships, we learn about empathy, compassion, forgiveness, and the importance of connection. Every person we encounter is a teacher, offering valuable lessons that help us evolve and grow. One of the things I've learned in Earth School is that humans have some universal things in common and yet we can be vastly different. Throughout humanity, we have encountered people who are loving, hateful, vengeful, brutal, compassionate, merciful, and all kinds of things which add to our experience of relationships here on earth. Through spirituality and psychology, we can become wise through knowledge and learning what to do with that knowledge. We can ruin relationships and also improve them. We can have stellar relationships if we desire.

Lesson 2: The Classroom of Resilience
Life is filled with challenges, setbacks, and unexpected twists. In Earth School, resilience is the key lesson we are here to learn. Whether it's facing adversity, overcoming obstacles, or navigating through times of uncertainty, our ability to bounce back and adapt is a testament to our strength and inner resilience. Each challenge we encounter is an opportunity for growth, teaching us valuable lessons about perseverance, courage, and the power of resilience in the face of adversity. There are many examples of resilience from the woman who was homeless and created a seven figure income after re-creating her reality, to someone like Christopher Reeves, who handled his disability with grit and grace. We are more powerful than we think.

Lesson 3: The Laboratory of Self-Discovery
At the heart of Earth School lies the journey of self-discovery. Through introspection, reflection, and self-awareness, we uncover the depths of our true selves – our passions, strengths, weaknesses, fears, and desires. This journey of self-discovery is a lifelong process, as we peel back the layers of conditioning and societal expectations to reveal the essence of who we truly are. By embracing our authenticity and honoring our unique path, we unlock the door to greater fulfillment and purpose in life. In yoga, there is a concept called Svadyaya or Self-Study. We get to choose whether or not we want to be on this path. Also, certain experiences thrust us into self-reflection and making changes based on our desire for living well.

Lesson 4: The Playground of Creativity
Creativity is a fundamental aspect of the human experience, and Earth School provides us with a playground to explore and express our creative potential. Whether it's through art, music, writing, or innovation, creativity allows us to tap into the limitless reservoir of our imagination and bring forth new possibilities into the world. In the process of creation, we learn about the power of intention, manifestation, and the joy of expressing our unique gifts and talents. Looking at cool architecture in buildings over the centuries and the ability to thwart off diseases with vaccines or immune boosting methods, we continue to create from a need to provide something the world needs or wants.

Lesson 5: The Field of Consciousness
At its core, Earth School is a journey of consciousness – a journey of awakening to the interconnectedness of all life. As we expand our awareness and cultivate mindfulness, we begin to see beyond the illusion of separation and recognize the inherent unity that binds us all together. This shift in consciousness opens our hearts to compassion, empathy, and the realization that we are all interconnected threads of one universal human blanket.

Lesson 6: The Documentaries of Nature
From earth science and botany, to the study of animal life throughout the world, we see nature as an expression of the divine which is beyond the earth. You could spend a lifetime studying nature and never learn all about it. I was watching Disney's Penguins the other day and was astounded at the mating rituals and behaviors of penguins in the Antarctic. The earth is a fascinating place and Earth School would have to include acknowledging all the aspects of the planet beyond just humanity. From the depths of the ocean to the farthest galaxies.

What have you learned in Earth School? What do you want to learn? What kind of grade would you like to earn from learning? For me, earning a C in Earth School would be just having an average experience. I want to have an A-like experience...learning as much as I can, being as loving and productive as I can, and leaving a legacy of love, positivity, and inspiration to my family and the following generations.
