Bulletproof Coffee Recipe

In midlife and beyond, we want to change things up a bit.

Try something new and different.

Get excited about alternative beverages - like this twist on coffee.

I follow people on social media and have a friend who likes to create a healthy coffee treat and enjoy that in the morning instead of a plain cup of coffee. It's called the Bulletproof coffee recipe and I want to share it with you because it is healthy, yummy, and soulfully fulfilling.  You put together the following ingredients then blend it in a blender and WOWZA! I LOVE this coffee treat!

I take a plain cup of coffee and add a bunch of ingredients that makes this sensational second half of life  alternative to regular coffee super delicious!

Here's the recipe I use:

12 oz. black coffee (regular, decaf, or half caf)

1 scoop collagen powder - has the benefit of supporting skin, hair, and nail growth (I get mine at Costco)

1 Tablespoon grass fed butter (a rich source of vitamin A and a fat-soluble micronutrient required for vision, reproduction, cell division and differentiation, bone growth, and immune function.)

1 Tablespoon MCT Oil (physical energy, mental clarity, reduced appetite, increased fasting, keytones - the preferred fuel for the brain and the heart)

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon - enhances flavor and increases circulation

1-2 teaspoons cacao powder - high in antioxidants and is packed with flavonoids, which have been shown to help lower blood pressure, improve blood flow to your brain and heart, and help prevent blood clots.

1 Tablespoon Almond butter - a healthy fat that helps reduce appetite throughout the day. Also full of protein

2 pitted medjool dates- a natural sweetener (if you like it sweeter as I do) and also high in fiber

While brewing your coffee, gather all the other ingredients and start to fill your nutribullet or other blender and add everything except the almond butter. Save that for when the coffee is poured into your blender. Then add the almond butter and blend. If you don't use the dates, you won't need to blend for long. If you use the dates, the blending time is about 30 seconds to break up the dates. You might have some little chunks of date left on the bottom. It's okay to just go ahead and eat them.

I then pour the delicious blend into my favorite coffee cup and will typically have made more than will fit in my coffee cup, so I drink that first and keep my coffee warm until it's time to start on that. After a few minutes you will notice a frothy foam on the top of your beverage. Do not be alarmed; instead, take a spoon and spoon it out and put it in your mouth! It's just about the best part of the coffee...better than a cappuccino froth for sure.
